Buying Hair

This section of my website will help you when purchasing hair extensions to be installed by me. I prefer that clients provide their own hair, as I cannot guarantee the hair. This will help you pick out the best hair for you. Buying hair is a fun process, this will help you make your decision even easier!

Keep in mind, one of the biggest mistakes people make is assuming that extension hair is going to feel exactly like their own hair. Usually the only extension hair that will feel close to your actual hair (not exactly like it) is the highest quality virgin Indian Remy hair, because it has not been processed. Depending on the color and texture, most of the other qualities have been dyed or processed in some way while the highest quality has never been processed.

Human Hair or Synthetic?

When shopping for hair, you'll want to get 100% human hair. With 100% human hair, you can wet, wash, cut, flat iron, curl, blowdry, and do pretty much everything else with all of the hair. Synthetic hair is made from plastic fibers, and will melt when heat is applied.

Weft or Individual?

If you're getting Non Sewn Beaded WeftsBeaded Sew In, or Braided Sew In, you'll want to ask for Machine Weft Hair. Preferably Indian Virgin Remy hair if you want it to last longer. A full pack, or 3 ounces is usually enough for a full head (three tracks doubled)

If you're getting Individual Micro Beads or Individual Keratin, you'll want to ask for Individual I-tip hair. 100 strands is considered a full head, but if you have thicker hair, it is recommended that you get 125 to 150 strands.

Temporary Quality Hair.

Temporary quality lasts an average of 1 to 4 months for most of my guests. This hair will usually range from $80 - $150 for a full pack. This is a great option for those who are getting extensions for a special event or would like something that is less expensive. It's not recommended to choose this hair for long term extensions, however there are ways to make it last longer by taking extra care of them with approved products. If any other products are used, this hair probably won't last more than a month. Click here to see approved products. The main reason this hair is so temporary is the manufacturing. With temporary quality hair, some hairs may be upside down. Meaning they are facing the opposite direction of the natural hair growth. If you've teased your hair before, you know that brushing your hair backwards causes tangling. When there are hairs that are upside down, you are essentially always going to be brushing those hairs backwards or teasing them. Temporary quality hair is also dyed multiple times and processed to be either straight, wavy, or curly. This over processing is damaging on the hair over time. Another aspect to this hair that makes it temporary is where it originated. Temporary quality hair is usually the leftovers from the factory, meaning it comes from multiple donors. The hair is not all from one person, which is why they are forced to process it to create the right texture.

Medium Quality Hair.

Medium quality lasts an average of 4-6 months for most of my guests. This hair will usually range from $150 - $200 for a full pack. This is a great "middle of the road" option. These extensions still require maintenance with approved products but will get less tangled than the temporary quality. While this hair may also have upside down hairs, hair from multiple donors, and multiple proccesses, it is treated with more care than temporary quality during manufacturing. Most of my clients who have moved up from temporary to medium say that they notice a huge difference in quality.

High Quality Hair.

High quality hair lasts an average of 6-8 months for most of my guests. This hair will usually range from $200 - $300 for a full pack. High quality will save you a lot of time during your beauty routine. It is much more soft and manageable. This hair type is Remy which means all of the hair strands are facing the same way as they would if they grew out of your head, which means less tangling for you. This hair will last much longer than the temporary and medium quality hair. You can dye this quality of hair also, so it will last longer even if you decide to change your hair color. If you do dye this hair, it's recommended that you use a semi-permanent dye. Lightening is not recommended for this hair but can be done at the risk of the hair's longevity. This hair may be from multiple donors, but is treated with a lot of care in manufacturing with the least amount of color processes.

Highest quality hair lasts and average of 8-10 months for most of my guests. Some clients have kept the highest quality over a year! This hair will usually range from $300 and up for a full pack. The highest quality is also known as 100% Virgin Indian Remy hair. All hair is from one donor, all hair is facing the same directions as if it were growing on your head. And this hair hasn't been dyed or processed. Because this hair is from India with no dying or processing, most of it comes in darker colors. You'll notice this at stores like Pauline's Human Hair in Bellflower, CA. If you'd like to get this hair but your hair is light, I recommend having an experienced color specialist color it for you. If you are looking for extremely gorgeous hair that is soft and beautiful, this is what you want to get. You will love the body and natural movement of the highest quality human hair. This is the Gucci of hair and the closest you're going to get to having hair that looks and feels like your own. Because the cuticles are intact and go in the same direction as the hair that grows on your head, the hair has a beautiful natural luster that you don't see on other types of hair. Also, the cuticles protect the hair and prevent tangling, giving you long-lasting, easy to manage, soft hair. This is is as good as it gets, it basically came straight off of one donor's head. Definitely worth the investment, since the hair can be used over and over, and be colored.

Highest Quality Hair.

Hair Lengths

18 Inches is the average length for hair extensions. It falls a little below the bra strap, and can be cut to blend in with short hair. If you have hair shoulder length or above, 18 inches is the recommended length for you. If your hair is extremely short, we may have to cut them to 14-16 inches to blend them correctly.

20 inches will fall at the waist area. 20 inches can be used for people with hair anywhere below shoulder length. If your hair is shoulder length or above, 20 inches wouldn't be a good fit. Because of the excessive cutting and blending that has to be done for people with short hair, 20 inches would look un-natural after the blending process. If your hair is past your shoulders, you might like to try 20 inches for extra length.

22 inches is for people who already have generally long hair, but want it longer! It will fall just above your belly button area. If your hair length hits your bra strap or below, you qualify for 22 inch hair.

24 inches is very long. This is for people with long hair who can't get enough of the length. 24 inches will fall just above your belt loops.

Hair Textures

The most common hair type you'll find is "straight" or "silky straight", but after the first wash, it has a small wave to it. There is also wavy hair and curly hair available. Keep in mind (highest quality excluded) that the wavy and curly textures will get more tangled faster than the straight texture. The more curly you go, the more the hair has been chemically processed. This goes the same with color. If you're getting blonde hair or other unnatural hair colors, it has been processed more than the black, dark brown, and brown colored hair. Highest quality hair is the only hair that this doesn't apply to. Highest quality has never been processed so it always comes with a natural Indian wave and color to it.

Remy Hair.

Remy hair is a term which is often confused in the hair extensions world. The term originally referred to the process of sorting raw hair into the same direction. This method was used during the early days of wig-making to ensure the wigs remained tangle-free. However, due to the time consuming and expensive nature of this process as well as the presence of modern technologies, this method has been changed a bit. Now the term remy hair usually refers to hair that has been collected from ponytail cuttings, where the cuticles remain intact and are aligned in the same direction from root to tip. So in other words, remy hair means 'cuticle correct hair'. However, the term 'remy' is widely abused and misused in the industry and now tends to be branded to highly processed hair which has been stripped, treated, and in fact is not actually remy hair at all. This makes it very difficult for the consumer to know exactly what they are buying.

Virgin Hair.

Virgin is just another way of saying that the hair hasn't been dyed or chemically processed in any way. Virgin hair should also only come from one donor, giving an even texture throughout without having to chemically process it. Most virgin hair has a natural wave to it and comes in darker colors since it has never been dyed. Many companies use the term virgin on their packaging when their product isn't virgin at all, so it's important to get virgin hair from a trusted source.

Indian Hair.

The term Indian Hair is just a way of telling us where the hair comes from geographically. Indian hair is the most popular type of hair extension because it can be straightened, curled, and dyed easily. Other types of hair extensions include Brazilian, Peruvian, Malaysian, Burmese, Mongolian, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Russian,

Raw/Bulk Hair.

Raw hair is hair that has just been cut off of the ponytail with no further processing or manufacturing. It becomes bulk hair once it has been cleaned by the manufacturer. It looks like this...

Weft Hair.

Weft hair is achieved by sewing bulk hair onto a "track". People refer to this as weft hair or tracks. They look like this...

Individual Hair.

Individual hair is made by combining shoe-lace like strands of bulk hair. This hair looks like this...
